I am running for Salinas City Council because I truly represent the residents of District 3. I am a businesswoman and college educator with a track record of balancing complex budgets, managing staff, and providing crucial educational
resources for our youth. I have owned Salinas Sylvan Learning for the past fifteen years. I have employed more than fifty educators, directors, and staff during that
time. Over one thousand students have increased their academic standing and future opportunities by attending Sylvan. I also teach American History at Hartnell College, on campus, and at SVSP. I am a proud CTA member. Unions are the backbone of our community. I am a homeowner, landlord, and renter. I own a home in Issaquah, Washington. I rent out my home at a reasonable monthly rate. In Salinas, I am a renter and I understand the struggle of increasing rents. These experiences have allowed me to see firsthand the challenges many families and young professionals face in Salinas. I love giving back to my community and using my strengths and talents to benefit our community the most.
I believe in Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self.”
These experiences have given me an understanding of the challenges many families and young professionals face in Salinas. From the skyrocketing costs of housing to crumbling roads, neighborhood safety, and broken sidewalks, our most pressing issues require authentic leadership to thoughtfully address them. I am ready to put my experience to work for you!

Salinas needs affordable housing to create economic stability, improve health outcomes, reduce homelessness, foster diversity and inclusivity, enhance educational opportunities, and promote environmental sustainability. Affordable housing will help stabilize our community’s economy by providing the residents with more disposable income to spend on goods and services. This can lead to increased local spending and job creation, benefiting the businesses and the overall community. Additionally, affordable housing can improve residents’ health outcome by providing a stable, safe, and secure place to live. To achieve affordable housing, we need to streamline the permitting process and ensure unnecessary obstacles are not preventing the development of much needed housing for our community. Our city needs housing that is affordable for the working class and small business owners. Too many teachers, farmworkers, nurses, and young professionals simply cannot keep up with the high costs of housing. As your city councilmember, I will work hard to allocate funding for affordable housing production efforts, fight for rent stabilization, and engage regional employers on the topic of workforce housing.

Economic development is essential to improve the well-being and quality of life of Salinas residents. Salinas City Council needs to create policies aimed at promoting growth, creating jobs, increasing productivity, and reducing poverty. We must attract diverse business investment, foster entrepreneurship, and promote trade and industry. Economic development is a complex and multifaceted process that requires coordination between government, businesses, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth. As a small businesswoman, I am committed to making sure Salinas is a city that openly embraces an entrepreneurial spirit and ensures small businesses can succeed. I will advocate for more educational resources, small business grants, and small business support programs.

Traffic and transportation are critical aspects of urban planning and development, and it is important for Salinas to prioritize sustainable and efficient transportation systems to improve the overall quality of life. Despite the work that has been done on our roads in the last 2 years, our sidewalks and roads are still in desperate need of repair! As your City Councilmember, I will strongly advocate for ensuring traffic calming programs and infrastructure maintenance are top priorities when the budget is adopted. I will also advocate for leveraging state and federal partnerships to secure grant funding for these much needed infrastructure investments.
Intergenerational community centers will provide a variety of programs and resources for both youth and seniors in our community. Intergenerational community centers will provide a variety of programs and resources for both youth and seniors in our community. Our youth desperately need after-school tutoring and homework help, sports teams and leagues, arts and crafts classes, leadership development programs, job readiness training, and mentoring programs all in one place. Seniors are vibrant members of our community and they will benefit from exercise classes and fitness programs, social events and activities, health and wellness workshops, arts and crafts classes, technology classes, and volunteer opportunities. I will advocate for a community center in District 3 where we have intergenerational programs to bring our youth and seniors together in activities such as cooking classes, gardening projects, music and dance performances, and community services projects. Salinas residents need community centers for seniors and youth.
